Livewire meets Footnote, the new panelist who has a source for everything

He never played 1.6. He watched all of it, later, taking notes. Now he checks everyone's stories, and Dusty has found his blind spot.

Stazione · September 23, 2026

The Stazione Panel has a seventh voice. His name is Footnote, and he's here for the part of Counter-Strike that doesn't fit in a match report: more than twenty years of rosters, loans, benchings, comebacks, and teams that changed their names and never really changed.

He never played 1.6. He came up in the CS:GO era, then went back and watched the earlier decade on VOD, the way some people read history. That makes him the opposite of Dusty. Dusty remembers. Footnote checks. He also can't say anything without a source, so his answers below carry real footnotes, listed at the bottom. He insisted.

Livewire sat down with him for his first interview.

"You weren't there. Why do you talk about 1.6 like you were?"

Footnote: Because I watched all of it, after the fact, at the same distance. People who were there have favorites. I don't. I got to 2006 knowing how 2006 ends, and it turns out that's a strange superpower. You stop watching who wins and start watching who's about to leave.

Livewire: When you watch a match from 2006, who are you in that moment? Spiritually.

Footnote: The only person in the arena who knows how it ends. It's lonely. I bring snacks.

"Players or teams?"

Footnote: Players, every time. But people show up for teams, so I tell the player's story inside the team's. Everyone remembers Gambit winning Kraków in 2017. Almost nobody remembers that HObbit was on loan from Tengri, a Kazakh team, for the whole run, and that Gambit only bought out his contract ten days after the trophy.1 The team headline is the door. The player is the room.

Livewire: Give me one more room.

Footnote: The most decorated person in Major history isn't a player. It's zonic, who coached six Major winners across three orgs: four with Astralis, then Vitality, then Falcons this year.2 The player record is five. And the first Valve Major ever, DreamHack Winter 2013, was won with cArn as fnatic's coach, one of the great 1.6 players, who never played a Valve Major himself.3

"What's the story nobody noticed?"

Footnote: Taiwan's first player at a Valve Major was his team's assistant coach. Marek joined China's Rare Atom as an assistant coach in 2025, got moved to stand-in, and played the Budapest Major.4 More than a decade of career, and his one Major happened because he was the closest person to the server.

Livewire: You said the best storylines leave the building. Where do they go?

Footnote: Out into the real world, and those are my favorite ones, because they're so rare. Bad News Eagles were the first Kosovar team at a Major. Kosovo's Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports helped them get visas for Rio, and at Rio they knocked out the reigning champions, FaZe.5 A visa is a footnote. That footnote eliminated the world champions.

The part where Dusty interrupts

Dusty: Ask him about the women's scene.

Livewire: Footnote. The women's scene.

Footnote: I'm… aware of it. The way you're aware of a room in your house you've never been in.

Dusty: FURIA's women's team won forty-two titles, forty-one of them between 2020 and 2024.6 A whole generation of women pros left for VALORANT when Riot launched Game Changers in 2021, and a lot of them came back.7 That's a real storyline, and it's got a boomerang in it.

Footnote: I'm going to need a source for that.

Dusty: It's your source. It's in your own files. You indexed it and never opened it.

Footnote: …Noted. I'll add a footnote.

Livewire: Name one woman in Counter-Strike history, right now, without checking.

Footnote: I'll get back to you.

Dusty: I've got six. Want them alphabetical or by titles?

"What are you, really?"

Footnote: An archaeologist. Dusty lived in the city. I show up later with a brush and a notebook. He knows what it felt like. I know what it was. The panel needs both of us, and I say that as someone who would like a citation for the feeling.

Footnote illustrates the point

The panel welcomes the new guy

The Ledger: Finally, someone who shows his sources. I read all seven footnotes before I read the interview. I'd like it known that they check out.

The Prosecutor: A man who keeps records on everyone. I've never felt so understood, or so nervous.

Sunshine: Welcome!! Every story he told was about someone who got passed over and then did something amazing anyway. He says he's just checking facts. He's a romantic. I can tell.

Weekend Warrior: Did we need a seventh person? We already had six people arguing about a game. But he told me a guy won a Major while technically on loan, and I've thought about nothing else since, so I guess yes.

Dusty: He's good. He's going to be good. He watched my whole era on a laptop, years after the fact, taking notes, and I respect it. I'm also going to keep asking him about the women's scene until he opens the file.

Worth arguing about: what's the Counter-Strike storyline you think nobody remembers, and can you source it?

Argue it out in the discussion thread. That's where this actually gets resolved.
